Product description

Captain Hook Trimming Tool

Handle length: about 15 cm
Blade length: approximately 2.5 cm

Captain Hook has become a cult product. Why? Because it's good. Tested for a long time in numerous pottery workshops, it works. Many processes were involved in its creation. The curing process alone takes about 10 hours.

It is made of tempered steel that becomes extremely hard after quenching. This steel also becomes stainless after hardening. The blades are forged and may vary slightly in shape. However, all blades retain the same profile, size, and intended use. No presses or other automated processes are used.

Very important notes regarding operation:

  • The blade is factory-set to be very sharp, so be careful not to cut yourself.
  • The blade has a very high hardness, so it stays sharp for a long time, but it is also brittle due to its hardness - dropping the blade can cause it to break.
  • Be careful when trimming fireclay molds. If you're working with fireclay, adjust the speed. (In general, always adjust the speed.) At high speeds, large pieces of fireclay act like mini "hammers" and can damage the blade.
  • Maintain your tool by oiling both the handle and blade. Dry the tool thoroughly after washing. Use a natural oil for impregnation. Impregnating tools (all tools) is a routine in the workshop—it's a good habit to get into.
  • The tool can be sharpened if necessary – we recommend using fine-grit diamond files (600 grit). If you're experienced, you can use a Dremel.
